other things i make ...
... about this time each year, I'm always ready to put my crafting aside and listen to the request for the halloween costume. Each year it's usually something that I can easily pull together ... last year I had the task of creating a jawa costume ... thank goodness Dusty was able to find a internet pattern I could follow.
Needless to say, wearing this costume in Arizona ... ended up being very hot. I believe I remember Parker pulling off the hood a number of times during the evening. This costume has found its way into the costume box and will probably be pulled out again ...
Some requests are a simple "remake" of what we've used in the past. We made the skirt, shirt from Target and hat has been used a number of times.
The Halloween spirits must be on my side as the request for costume making are few ... actually ... Parker is going as Bob Marley (pictures to follow) and Molly will be going as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz (like there's another Dorothy?)
Molly had only one request, she wanted a Halloween-ie type skirt but nothing that look too costume-y for her school dance. This is what we came up with ... we both have a fascination with the celebration of Day of the Dead (not really a Halloween celebration.) But then anything that has skulls, counts in my book.
We look forward to trick-or-treating this year with the Boise Cousins ... stay tuned for pictures from our hauntings!

tomatobaby tuesday ...
I've been working on aprons ... great way to get through my stash!
In chatting with my sister-in-law, I asked her if she dressed up for Halloween. Her reply was if she did, it consists of a chef's hat, an apron and a wooden spoon. So, I thought I would surprise her and make an apron for her ... whatcha think? Now, we'll see if this ends up being a surprise or not ... does she read my blog?? Look for more of these and other apron designs on tomatobaby.com and at my shop on etsy!

Chicken Soup for the Soul ...
... or for my sister's health. During her visit to the doctor, she asked, "What can I do to help myself get better?" The doctor told her "good 'ol chicken soup." I delivered this batch to her this afternoon.

My Chicken Soup for the Soul recipe ... probably like many recipes ... includes chicken, carrots, celery, onion, salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley and wide noodles. Good eating Jennifer and speedy recovery. (Oh, and I'll need my crock-pot back for Sunday supper! Just kidding ...)

tomatobaby thursday ...
... introducing heirloom tomatoes from tomatobaby.com

... one thing I've missed since we've moved from the South is my garden. I think my "green thumb" comes from my mother and her mother and probably on down the line. Summer squash, cucumbers, zucchini, various tomatoes ... we grew them all! Since I truly don't know the vegetable growing season here in the southwest, I figured I would cultivate my very own vegetables. And of course, it would be the tomato!
These cotton fabric heirloom tomatoes also have a dual purpose ... cute as table decor, but for the crafter or seamstress, these will double as a pin-cushion. Each tomato is stuffed with 100-percent natural cotton stuffing, topped with wool felt leaves and a button-bottom for stability (not recommended for children). Three sizes (3 to a package) will be available on tomatobaby.com and tomatobaby.etsy.com. Oh, and they're non-perishable ... no rotten tomatoes here!
